A residential property located along Iso Oqua Street in Calabar Metropolis is currently on fire with properties worth millions already destroyed.
The fire began around 6:27 PM on Sunday with residents and well wishers struggling to stop it from spreading to nearby compounds.
The property is located 50 meters away from the Cross River State Local Government Pensioners Office, a stone throw from the Nigerian Navy Akim Barracks and less than 500 Meters away from the Akim Division of the Nigerian Police Force.
The cause of the blaze is currently unknown, but, occupants could be seen wailing while others, including CrossRiverWatch Managing Editor, Jonathan Ugbal joined hands in fetching water to stop the blaze while reaching out to the Police and the Cross River State Fire Service.
About 45 minutes after the fire began, and had been suppressed, the Fire Department of the University of Calabar arrived but was chased away by irate youths who were angry at the response time.
Despite pleas from others, the Truck turned back and left.
As at press time, the fire had been suppressed while efforts to put it out continue.
