Resident Doctors Strike Partnership With Police For Improved Healthcare Security In Cross River

By Sylvia Akpan

The Cross River State Police Command and Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), branch have struck a partnership aimed at strengthening collaboration to improve healthcare security.

During the courtesy visit on Tuesday June 23, 2026 in Calabar, the Commissioner of Police, Rashid Afegbua, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Godwin Etim, received the delegation of ARD.

Both parties discussed ways to improve communication, enhanced emergency response coordination, and ensure the safety and security of healthcare personnel, patients, and medical facilities across the state.

It can be noted that medical doctors and other health workers in the state in recent times have been targeted for kidnapping and other criminal vices.

The insecurity within health facilities have seen doctors in the state down tools, crying for improved security or securing a safe release of their members

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, DCP Godwin Etim reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to partnering with critical stakeholders and assured the doctors of continued police support in creating a safe environment for effective healthcare delivery.

The leadership of the Association of Resident Doctors, Dr. Ofem Ofem,
commended the Police Command for its efforts in maintaining security across the state and stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between healthcare institutions and law enforcement agencies.

The engagement ended with both parties reaffirming their commitment to a stronger partnership aimed at promoting public safety, enhancing healthcare security, and improving service delivery in Cross River State.
