Court Ruling Deepens Suspected PDP Factional Dispute In Cross River

By Patrick Obia

Suspected factional dispute within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, has taken a fresh turn following a recent Court of Appeal judgment involving the party’s governorship candidate in Osun State.

A faction of the PDP in Cross River, led by supporters of the Tanimu Turaki-led national leadership, said the judgment had affirmed the legitimacy of its leadership structure and, by extension, the nomination of Julius Udayi Koly as the party’s governorship candidate in Cross River State.

The group made their position known during a press briefing held in Calabar, saying the Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja on Thursday, August 13, 2026, upheld the nomination of Adebayо Olugbenga Adedamola as the authentic PDP governorship candidate for the Osun State election.

According to the faction, the court held that Adedamola was validly nominated and presented by the Kabiru Turaki-led PDP and consequently directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to include the PDP logo on the ballot for the Osun State governorship election.

The Cross River faction yet without physical office, argued that the judgment had strengthened its claim that the Turaki-led national leadership was the legitimate structure of the PDP, insisting that Julius Udayi and other candidates produced by its faction were validly nominated.

The group also accused supporters of the rival faction associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Senator Sandy Onoh of allegedly presenting themselves as PDP candidates in the state.

It called on security agencies, particularly the state’s security leadership, to monitor what it described as parallel political activities by the rival faction, warning that the situation could create tension and potentially threaten public peace if not properly managed.

The faction urged Cross Riverians to support what it described as the Turaki-led PDP, while maintaining that its position was intended to clarify the party’s leadership and candidate status in the state.
