Cross River-born youth development practitioner Prince Inyang Nyong has earned continental recognition for leadership excellence, grassroots capacity building and commitment to developing ethical young African leaders.
He named Fellow of the Year 2026 by One Million Leaders Africa (OMLA) in recognition of his outstanding commitment and contributions to the Fellowship.
Nyong, who hails from Cross River State and is actively involved in community development in Akwa Ibom State, successfully completed all three phases of the Fellowship: five weeks of leadership training, Training of Champions, and Entrepreneurship, which focused on proposal development and pitching.
As part of his leadership challenge, he partnered with Lifelong Development Academy (LDA), Uyo, to facilitate five weeks of leadership training for young people aged 13–35, equipping participants with knowledge in ethical leadership, sustainability, personal development and social innovation.
The experience inspired him to establish the New Nigeria Ethical Leadership and Action Project (NELAP), a community-based initiative designed to make ethical leadership education accessible to underserved young Nigerians.
On October 7, 2026, Nyong presented NELAP at the OMLA Deal Room, outlining his vision to raise at least 200 young ethical leaders annually from 2027 to 2030 through mentorship, capacity building and community action.
Beyond the Fellowship, Nyong serves as Co-founder and Programs Manager of Street Mentors Network (SMN), a Uyo-based nonprofit supporting street-connected children and vulnerable young people through education, mentorship, child protection and skills development.
Nyong holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Planning from the University of Calabar. His contributions to leadership, innovation and youth development have earned him notable recognitions, including being named among the SDSN Youth Nigeria Top 150 Innovators (2025), his selection as a World Summit Awards (WSA) Youth Ambassador in 2023, and receiving the Opportunity Desk 30 Under 30 Award in 2023.
His recognition as OMLA Fellow of the Year came unexpectedly, leaving him momentarily speechless when he was invited to address fellow participants.
Reflecting on the moment, Nyong recalled the dedication, sacrifices and effort invested throughout the Fellowship.
The award represents another significant milestone in his growing contributions to youth empowerment, ethical leadership development and grassroots capacity building in Nigeria and across Africa.
For Nyong, the recognition reinforces a conviction that continues to guide his work as leadership is not about titles but about responsibility.
