The Director General, Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mr. Vincent Aqua has disclosed to CrossRiverWatch that the non passage of the edict setting up the agency into law is still hampering the smooth and effective running of the agency amidst the financial crisis the state is grappling with.
He said the non passage of the edict has constrained the agency from getting adequate funding and legislative back up to fully discharge their duties even in the face of unpredictability of disasters and emergencies.
The SEMA DG acknowledged that the state government is managing to survive with the meager sources of revenue/income at its disposal. “Government cannot cope. As we have not had our edict passed, we cannot be empowered We can easily go and start sourcing for funds outside from government, it is as a result of the financial situation of the state. So many things are pending!”.
He pledged not to allow the challenges bedeviling the agency deter them from discharging their duties to the capacity of the available resources.
