CRUTECH ASUU Suspends Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Cross River University of Technology, CRUTECH chapter has suspended its over 6 month’s old strike.

This was made known exclusively to CrossRiverWatch by the Chairman of ASUU in CRUTECH, Mr. Steven Ochang via a phone conversation.

According to him, the industrial action was suspended after signing an agreement with the state government penultimate Friday, 8th May 2015 to that their plight will be ameliorated.

According to Ochang, “Salary arrears of 5 months will be paid and promotion arrears too will be taken care of, also they promise paying January and February salaries”.

Curiously, he disclosed with dismay that till date after signing the agreement “I am surprised it has not been implemented”.

But in a notice from the management of the institution signed by its Deputy Registrar Information/Public Relations Officer, Gabriel Beshel, students are advised to resume back to their various campuses for first semester 2014/2015 academic activities forthwith.

The notice which carries no date states that matriculation for fresher’s will follow almost immediately.

Students in the Calabar campus were also assured that their delayed accommodation will be available in a forth night due to ongoing renovation of hostels.

The Union was silent on whether Ayade’s appeal to them to resume to they can resume negotiation informed their calling off the strike.

    Imoke should pay up salaries n allowances of workers…..so we can complete our courses n leave the university for him to run. It would be a shame coupled with disgrace to be a PDP leader of no heart for the people. There is nothing he has done that people has felt immensely. I pray for health for him because the cry of the workers is on his HEAD.
