The first semester examinations of the 2014/2015 session in Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) may yet again be postponed as the institution’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) failed to resolve teething issues between them and management.
ASUU met earlier today to resolve whether to continue their hunger strike or not, after the payment of two out of four months’ salary arrears that members of the union are owed.
CrossRiverWatch gathered from reliable sources that members were split on the issue and as at press time it was yet unclear whether the issue was resolved amicably or not.
Efforts to reach the Chairman of the Union, Doctor Stephen Ochang, were futile as calls to his phone were not reachable just as our correspondent could not find him as we gathered he may have left for Obubra where he is a lecturer in the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry.
As earlier predicted by CrossRiverWatch, the examinations which were shifted to Monday August 31, 2015 did not hold with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Owan Enoh in a message to students announcing a new date for examinations to commence as it was hoped lecturers will resolve pending issues upon receiving assurances about salaries in the congress which was held earlier today in the Calabar campus of the University.
The message signed by the VC himself read in part “By Wednesday September 2, 2015 assurances of received salaries will enable staff resolve in congress to conduct examinations”.
Staff however kept mute when our correspondent tried to find out whether the disagreement over the policy on continuous assessment had been resolved.
