The Cross River State Vehicle Inspection Unit in collaboration with the Department of Public Transportation have begun sensitization campaign for all road users in the State and environs with the theme “Say No To Road Crash 2015” in preparation for the festive period usually called Ember Months (September ,October, November and December).

Speaking at a ceremony to commence the sensitization program, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Department of Public Transportation, Ntufam Gabriel Ogulaja described the program as one geared towards capacity building which will enable the road users know their road signs and related issues.

Ogulaja said “the ability to be alive is to be conscious of yourself, as a driver you have to be very careful when you are plying the road. It is always good to refresh you driving skills from time to time.” he warned.

While educating participants on the theme, the Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer, Bepeh Paul highlighted some of the major factors that cause accidents which he categorized into road, human and state of vehicle.

“Nobody should hurry you when you are on the steering, on no account should you move a car without checking. Consider every road user a mad man, you must ensure you always use your accessories in the vehicle properly”, the Chief VIO said.

He concluded by attributing the cause of most of the accidents to passengers and urged managers of different transport companies to go back to their dress code to enable VIO and other road agencies identify their companies.
