Following the defection of several bigwigs of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River’s governor Ben Ayade’s home Obudu local government area, the PDP has now held several meetings to consolidate on their gains.
The meetings which were tagged “reunion” held over the course of one week at the instances of the Community Relations Officer (CRO) Emmanuel Akwagiobe, Special Adviser, Public Affairs to Ayade, Tony Undiaundeye and Special Duties Commissioner, Victor Agwu were quite brief with several state and local government appointees in attendance including past and serving councillors.
At one of the meetings held shortly after the defection of one time guber aspirant, Jedy Agba and Venatius Ikem, Tony Undiaundeye who spoke on behalf of the governor charged the party members to stand on their feet and lampooned those who have left the PDP, alleging it was for “their selfish reasons.”
He reminded them that they were “great things the governor has in mind for the state with some manifesting already.”
In a similar vein, Victor Agwu encouraged members to be steadfast and support Ayade to deliver on his mandate and posited the PDP is “getting stronger everyday”, urging members to “not be deceived by the mere words of betrayal from men who are not friends of the party.”
A onetime Adviser on environmental issues in the council, Emmanuel Utande while speaking on behalf of the others, stressed the need for effective communication, pointing out that “everything seems to be stagnant due to the lack of information from the top to the bottom with party members lacking information about the party activities.”
Utande also added that the party members “are not happy with the governor in his appointments” with the current concentration of power “not favouring many.”
In a related development, Governor Ben Ayade donated one motorcycle and 200 thousand Naira to the Commercial Cyclists Union in Obudu with unconfirmed information suggesting it was in fulfilment of his promise to give out the largesse for Christmas.
