The police in Calabar on Monday arrested a car snatcher, Edem Offiong, a 20 year old man who in company of three others snatched a vento car from a taxi driver, one Daniel Okon which they rented for a trip but ended up snatching when they got to their destination.
According to Daniel Okon, the robbers chartered his Vento car with registration number XB 407 CAL, for a trip from the city center to the Federal Housing Estate in Calabar and when they got to GRA 1 at the Federal Housing, one of them “pointed a pistol at me and ordered me to get out of the car and when I did, one of them got into the driver’s seat and they drove the car away but I raised alarm”.
He said his alarm attracted the police patrol team to the scene and “when I told them my car had just been snatched, they gave the robbers a chase and arrested the robber who was driving the car while they others fled”.
DSP John Umoh, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Cross River State Command told crossriverwatch that the arrested robber led the police to their hideout where a revolver was and another car, a Mazda with registration number EE 658 FST which is also suspected to have been stolen were recovered.
DSP Umoh said the new Police Commissioner for Cross River State, Mr. Kola Sodipo has zero tolerance for crime and had on his arrival a week ago advised criminals in the state to repent or relocate because he is going to hunt down every one of them.
