Cross River State Governor, Senator Ben Ayade has commissioned the new secretariat of th the Nigerian Association of Nurses and Midwives NANNM, also named Comfort Imoke Nurses House, in Calabar.

The Secretariat which is named after the mother of Senator Liyel Imoke, the immediate past governor of the State, was described as the greatest impact of the nurses in the state by the governor who was represented by his deputy.

He assured that his administration will continue to give support and engage the practicing and graduating nurses to ensure there’s improved health care delivery throughout the state.

He also re-assured the association that, the government will do everything within the law to ensure other schools of nursing and midwifery get full accreditation and resources to execute their mandates effectively.

Also speaking at the event, the former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke said, “I grew up the house of a nurse, and I became a lawyer but the passion of the Nursing profession never left me. It’s the commemoration of efforts of the Cross River State Nurses for naming the building after my late mother.

“I urge the nurses to keep their commitments as to commission more projects like this in the future. I feel passionate about this, and not because my mother’s memory is honored. I and the entire family of the Imokes’ wish to thank NANNM for this great recognition. And I hope the building will continue to accept and train and groom more people and nurses in the future.”

The Chairman of NANNM in Cross River State Chapter, Comrade Ojong Ofut Ogar in his remark celebrated the nurses of Cross River state who paid the prize for the project to be completed.

According to Ojong, the project was completed with more than 90% of the funding coming from the nurses themselves.

He also acknowledged the state government for approving ten million Naira (N10, 000, 000) towards the completion of the project, out of which six million has been paid.
