The member representing Obudu/Obanliku/Bekwarra federal constituency in the 8th National Assembly, Honorable Legor Idagbo has moved for the amendment of the Fire Service Act.
Mr. Idagbo had presented to the House, the Fire Service Act (amendment) bill 2017 and it was read for the first time during plenary on November 2, 2017.
He also sponsored House Bill 1206; the Fire (Hazard Prevention and Safeguard) bill which was read for the first time on same day.
Sources said both bills were motivated by recent fire outbreaks in Cross River State and the federation with an inferno razing down a section of Watt Market in Calabar, the Cross River State capital yesterday.
The market management and government had recently come under criticism for claiming the market generated only NGN21,000 in 2016.
Also, Mr. Idagbo sponsored the Federal Character Commission Act (Amendment) Bill, 2017 (HB. 1203) as well as the Flags and Coat of Arms Act (Amendment) Bill, 2017 (HB. 1205) which were both read for the first time on the floor of the House.
Meanwhile, a bill for an Act to Provide a Legal Framework for Industrial Waste Minimization and Prohibit Indiscriminate Waste Disposal in Nigeria; to Protect Humanity and the Environment from Harm and to Provide for Environmental, Social, Economic and Cultural Benefits, Encourage Manufacturers, Industrialists and Organizations; and for Related Matters (HB. 641) sponsored by Honorable Bassey Eko Ewa (Yakurr/Abi federal constituency) which was read for the second time was stepped down by leave of the House.
