The Cross River State Coordinator of the Youth Employment and Social Support Operations (YESSO), Mr. Bolinwo Ofegobi has dismissed insinuations that the organization is an employment agency.

Mr. Bolinwo who disclosed this during an interview with newsmen recently in Calabar said, the organization was established to help ameliorate the plight of the indigent is doing this through the compilation of a register for the poor which the organization already has, and is using in the implementation of some of its interventions.

“We are not an employment agency, but what we do is to get people to work, not directly employing them but to improve their skills and get them to work and pay them stipends,” said Mr. Bolinwo who added that: “We are basically set up by the credit of World Bank to see how we can empower our people through a kind of registration of poor and vulnerable people. We compile that register and maintain it for everybody, so it can be used to help our people.”

He admonished those who have the means to help to avail themselves of the opportunity the register presents, as it is the most efficient and accurate data of the poor and vulnerable in the state.

He added that the register is compiled at: “The targeted communities to identify who amongst them is poor and vulnerable. And, using the community and youths based discussion, we are able to compile names from the community.”

Also, he averred that the register which currently has about 80,000 names will be expanded before the year ends as the organizations makes headway into other local areas.
