Prince Jedy Agba, a guber aspirant in the 2015 general elections has denied claims that he is contesting the 2019 gubernatorial elections.
Mr. Agba, a former Group General Manager of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC, disclosed this in a telephone interview with CrossRiverWatch on Friday evening.
“I am contesting elections and I am not in Calabar? I have no hands in that. I have told you before that I have removed my hands from politics and have no interest whatsoever in running for any position,” Mr. Agba said when asked to react to rumors that he will soon declare his intention to contest for governorship in 2019.
When pressed further, he averred that: “They are talking nonsense, I did not send anyone and I am not contesting.”
Mr. Agba, despite being a member of the All Progressives Congress APC, is said to have made peace with the processes leading up to the gubernatorial primaries of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in 2014 which he boycotted in protest of the party’s hierarchy in favor of incumbent governor, Senator Ben Ayade.
Mr. Ayade had told CrossRiverWatch that he has reached out to Mr. Agba who assured that he will work with him, a claim, Mr. Agba confirmed in a statement signed by him.
Also, during the launch of his autobiography, Mr. Ayade, alongside former Nigeria’s President, Olusegun Obasanjo extolled Mr. Agba’s persona for choosing a path that saw him support the governor rather than “fight his brother.”
