The Chairman of a delegation sent by the National Working Committee of the All Progressive Congress APC, to conduct election primaries in Cross River State, Mr. Ali Magashi has called on the media in Cross River State to desist from “giving undue publicity to illegal practices.”
He made this call while addressing a cross section of the party supporters as well as gentlemen of the press at the Margaret Ekpo Airport in Calabar, Cross River State, where he maintained that his team is the only legal representative sent to conduct election in the state.
Magashi also debunked the idea of parallel primaries conducted by a faction of the party in the state insisting that there is no such thing as a parallel congress and the national body does not recognize anybody that acts outside the confines of the party.
Responding to concerns about the factional governorship primaries conducted in the state, Magashi had this to say:
“As Nigerians, as people of law, there are some things you should not report at all; it is very unprofessional. You know the rules of the game, you know that primary elections as certified by INEC is only done by the party and for the process of political parties in Nigeria, it has been in the constitution of parties that the National Working Committee of the party delegates its responsibilities to committees formed by the national working committee to go and carry out such exercise in states and local government wards. So for anybody to go on behalf of the party and sit down and carry out an illegality and for the press to even give him the privilege to do that, I think it is not right.” He said.
He called on the media to act professionally regarding the matter maintaining that there is only one working committee which is led by him.
