Some residents of Ikaptang area of Ogoja Local Government in Cross River State have expressed joy over the 20, 000 litre capacity water tank installed by the Ayade-led Government.

Sharing their happiness with CrossRiverWatch yesterday while the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ivara Esu was commissioning the ‘quick-win’ project, the residents say the water is a new source of livelihood for them.

According to them, prior to this time, they can only get water from the river, and that over the years brought different types of water diseases to the people.

A resident, Mrs. Anne Wogar said “This water is God’s favor, water is life, and Governor Ayade has given us life. Before now we get water from the river, but with this clean water, we will no longer go to the river to fetch dirty water again.”

Mrs. Philomena Ogan has said “In fact, I was just treated recently for skin infection that I contracted from the river, and I know of so many people that has fallen ill and some even dead because of cholera infection. But with this new development, we can be sure of healthy living and longevity.”

Talking about protecting the water facilities, the youth leader, Mr. Emmanuel Montu added, “We have set Local Police in place to make sure that this water facilities are well secured and protected. We want to assure the Governor that in the next four years if he comes here again this facilities will still be as it is today.”

Meanwhile, Prof. Ivara Esu had earlier inspected the ongoing market stalls at Effraya market in Etung.

Though not totally completed and not really in a serene environment, and of course the entire market seems like not being in regular use for some time, the Head of Local Government Administration for Etung, Mr. Emmanuel Etung explained that “The market seem not to be in use because the traders prefer to use the Ikom market that has higher population.”

Responding, Prof. Esu said, “The market stalls is a future investment project. It may seem like it’s not worth it today, but we believe that I the nearest future the rewards will be evident.”

He also ordered the HOLGA to clean up the market.

Amongst other inspection carried out by the team is the commissioning of Street light at Mission Roundabout in Ogoja. This His Excellency said “Will ensure some level of orderliness among commuters and reduce the rate of accidents on this junction.”

He also inspected the opening of 18km Urban Street at Agiga still in Ogoja.

Meanwhile, over the weekend, the Deputy Governor and his team had commissioned 2000KVA generating set at Ugep, in Yakurr Local Government.

This generating sets Prof. Esu said, “Will supply uninterrupted power when there is no light from PHCN.”

CrossRiverWatch also gathered that each set will hold 10, 000 litres of diesel, this the HOLGA, Mr. Michael Onogha said “Can be used for at least two weeks, if the two sets are synchronized.”
