Today, Saturday 21 September 2013 is a day set aside by the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) for the state local council elections.
CrossRiverWatch has dispatched reporters across the state to monitor the conduct of the elections.
One of the reporters say the atmosphere in ward 7, Calabar South is a normal Saturday where most young men are playing football not minding whether there is an election.
Our reporter visited 3 polling units in ward seven; at Hawkins Primary School. He says CROSIEC agents where there but the turn up is very low for accreditation.
At Henshaw Town Primary School Egerton, electoral agents from CROSIEC are yet to arrive at press time.
At Sacred Heart Primary School at 10:06am was when the agents from CROSIEC arrived to set the stage. They were escorted by PDP polling agents.
Amongst some of the PDP unit agents there were arguments about whether the court judgement allowed APC candidates to stand for the election or not.
One of the PDP polling agents disclosed to CrossRiverWatch that he is disillusioned by the way his party went about the case and denied other parties the space to participate in the election.
He said if the result was otherwise he would have preferred to see how the election would look like because in almost all the 18 LGA, PDP has no opponent in the Chairmanship contest leaving only a few of the wards with councilorship candidates from other unknown parties.
