Code 888 has taken its commitment of ensuring that the governorship ticket come 2023 returns to the Southern Senatorial District to the next level.
The sociopolitical group warned that the will not hesitate to clampdown on anyone or group that tries to wrestle seat.
The group reiterated their position when it flagged off #Back2South campaign at the Main Bowl of Cultural center, Calabar.
In an opening remarks, its Director General, Maurice Nkong maintained that come 2023 Cross Riverians will play the number game and the zoning formula will continue in the State.
His words, “No one in the family will be happy when he or she is cheated when it comes to sharing inheritance. In the resources of Cross River State, power is a common patrimony and we like it to be shared equally. That’s is why as young people we are putting ourselves together as third force; I will like to say we are watch dogs. Injustice prevails when good men keep quite, it is normal for us to have a voice of decent.
“To people who say it is not supposed to be so, it’s normal. Politics is a game of number and choice, they have the right to their choice but what I have noticed in the six years of working in the field with code 888 is that, no matter strong you think you are, the force of rotation of power will knock you down if you stand against it.
“The force of rotation power in Cross River State is a strong political culture, it is not a wave you can swim against; it is a tsunami, you stand it crushes you and so we are affirming to Southern Cross Riverians that our team is together, in this generation we have aligned and we want to play the number games and we will give power back to South come 2023.”
In a twenty minutes talk, former PDP State Chairman, Ntufam John Okon took participants on historical journey in the State’s quest for zoning structure.
He averred that, Code 888 is coming as activism and it’s a good gesture that should be continued, calling on young politicians to always fall back to antecedents to avoid errors.
“We have always been a people that wanted to be recognized, to be given power to be able to work as a team. If you followed me in that discussion (memory lane), why were these agitation? The agitations were to ensure that we were treated fairly among us. We wanted a situation where order will be a position; there will be no dominant group.” He said.
On his part, Chief Peter Ojie, noted that zoning is not constitutional and shouldn’t be seen as a constitutional right rather, as an understanding which need to be arrived at adding that in as much as Code 888 sues for power to return back to the Southern Senatorial District, it will not be given on a plata of gold hence, there is need to fight for it.
According to him, “Zoning is not found anywhere in our constitution. You may not find a document that says power is moving from South to Central, from Central to North, from North to South. All what you have is understanding, even in the nuclear family of father, mother and children, what’s wrong with that family is understanding, once the principles are laid out the family will now run with that clear understanding.
“There is nowhere in the world power is donated. The power element is something you need to go for, you need to go for it, fight for it, do not mistake; it is not about the physical fight; it is the intellectual fight and that intellectual fight includes engagements and conversation.”
On his part, the Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Dan Obo, warned that any cartels that refuse to maintain the zoning structure in 2023 will be broken.
“Anybody from the North and Central who comes here to open a Secretariat to ask for Governor, he is a generational distraction, we will clampdown on that person. We hear people think that we are joking, let me tell you, they years in which they introduce fear in the minds of the people are gone; we will lead the on slots and heaven will not fall, if it will falls, it will fall on all of us.
“We will go as a generation and we will succeed. We are consulting ourselves, talking to ourselves and we are breaking cartels; if you belong to any cartel or group, we will break it.” Obo threatened.
