Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba has said no fewer than nine gubernatorial aspirants have consulted him to lend his support to their aspirations as the road to 2015 governorship election draw nearer.
Responding to questions of the allegation that he took one of the governoship aspirant from the Northern part of the State to the Presidency for support without the consent of the Governor and Leader of the State PDP, Ndoma Egba said he consider those carrying the information around as ‘mere rumor mongers’ saying they should come with facts if truly what they are saying is true.
He challenge those behind what he called ‘falsehood against his person’ to openly say it to the public, even as he said the aspirant in question is close to the Presidency than himself.
He said the aspirant consulted him and other stakeholders in the state, stressing that “as at the last count, no fewer than nine governorship aspirants from the Northern part of the state have consulted me”.
He said PDP in Cross River State is a family and it is premature for anyone to say he has lent support for a particular candidate.
“I challenge anybody that says I took one governorship aspirant to see the President to a public discuss. Anybody who feels he is qualified to contest for the position of governor from the North should go ahead to aspire since the party had zone it to that part since 2007 when governor Imoke was campaigning for the position of the governor of Cross River State.
“When we get to the harmonization stage using the internal mechanism of the party to elect or select a candidate for the party, we will all sit down and discuss as a family where the candidate will emerge”.
When asked about the possibility of All Progressive Congress (APC) coming out big to slug it out with the PDP in the state, Ndoma Egba said “APC waves are newspaper waves that have no place in Cross River State.”
