Senator Owan Enoh, an APC governorship candidate, has announced his withdrawal from the race, throwing his weight behind the ‘consensus’ arrangement spearheaded by Governor Ben Ayade.
The former lawmaker had said he needed to consult with his constituents after the Cross River Governor, Ben Ayade had anointed Prince Bassey Otu as the party’s consensus candidate, after a meeting held earlier this month in Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. Owan Enoh had gone ahead to complete the filing and subsequently submitted his nomination form, was screened, and continued to campaign, sharing his policy documents on social media.
In a statement on his official Facebook page, the Etung-born politician said the decision was made in acceptance of the supremacy of the party.
The statement reads in part: “Today, I am saddled with the onerous responsibility of conveying to you, my decision to suspend our campaign for the Governorship of Cross River State on the platform of our great party, the All Progressive’s Congress (APC). After some deep reflection in addition to consultations, I have taken the decision to yield to the consensus arrangement of our great party in the firm belief in the supremacy of our party. I do this for the sake of the unity If our platform and my support for the leadership of our party under H. E. Gov. Ayade.”
Owan added that he believes in the ability of the consensus candidate, “having closely associated with him over the years, I have no doubt in his ability to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. He’s not a bad choice after all!”
