The Cross River State Government on Tuesday launched its gender strategic plan to ensure a systemic and robust approach towards ending gender based violence.
This formed part of the activities marking the 2023 edition of the International Women’s Day, IWD, which is celebrated annually on March 8th.
The theme for the 2023 edition is, “DigitALL: Innovation And Technology For Gender Equality,” with the trend #EmbraceEquity used to promote tech and innovations in tackling gender based violence.
The strategic plan for the years 2022 to 2026 was initiated by the Commissioner for women Affairs, Surveyor Gertrude Njar while she was still Special Adviser on Women Affairs.
Mrs. Njar was, however, absent from the public presentation as she remains in captivity, 35 Days after her kidnap on February 1, 2023.
Unveiling the plan, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Alice Egbe charged stakeholders to key into it.
The plan is the maiden one and Mrs. Daniella Oku, a Program Officer at CUSO International, which funded part of the exercise explained why it took so long to achieve that.
“We already have a policy on gender. The strategic plan is a breakdown of what we have in the policy. It took this long because we needed all of the partners and the stakeholders to be on the table to provide inputs to the document,” Oku said.
She said the document will guide partners and stakeholders in streamlining their gender related activities in the State.
