Peace has finally returned to warring Kutia and Ukwotung communities in Obudu Local Government area in northern Cross River State after the intervention of the Chairman of the local council, Mr. Emmanuel Ugbe and other stakeholders.
Hostilities broke out again between the two neighboring communities on Tuesday and continued into Wednesday and Thursday but the Chairman of the local government convened an emergency peace meeting on Friday between the leaders of the warring communities and political appointees, permanents secretaries and other top government functionaries from Obudu.
The meeting which held at the Liyel Imoke Civic Center in Obudu in a four point resolution demanded the immediate cessation of all hostilities by both sides, that all traditional rulers who had already been members of the conflict and boundary resolution committee should go back to the field and put beacons to properly demarcate the disputed land and ensure both communities clearly understand their boundaries, that all leaders of constituency 1 and 2 should be included in the conflict and boundary resolution committee.
The meeting also warned anyone who is encouraging or supporting the conflict by any means to desist from such shameful act that is bringing the name of Obudu to disrepute.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Mr. Emmanuel Ugbe called on those who send monies home under the guise of development of their communities which end up in the hands of misguided miscreants who proceed to perpetrate mayhem to have a rethink.
The Chairman warned that no one, “whether you are a political appointee, politician or traditional ruler is above the law”
