The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Cross River State has barred its members in the state who are nursing any ambition of contesting elections for the position of governor or any other post from any form of electioneering campaign forthwith until the party’s guidelines are released.
Handing out the ban yesterday in a statement obtained by CrossRiverWatch, Ntufam John Okon, the State Chairman of the party said circulation of campaign materials such as posters, stickers, billboards, customized t-shirts, faze caps, appointment of Director General of Campaign Organization and opening of campaign offices is in contravention of party rules and must stop immediately.
“The party hereby cautions and warns that as a responsible political party we shall continue to abide by all guidelines as stipulated by INEC, the Electoral Act or any other law and for emphasis the party shall not hesitate to sanction or discipline anyone found wanting in this regard no matter how highly placed”.
The statement signed by the State Publicity secretary of the Party, Mr. Joe Obi Bisong on behalf of the State Chairman, Ntufam John Okon stated further that party members with political ambition have been availed with internal structures and processes to exercise their aspiration without breaching the law.
“The party hereby disassociates itself from this ugly trend and warns our prospective aspirants to stop forthwith the use of such campaign materials with our party logo in their own inertest”.
