The sale of three hectares of land located within the Cultural Center, Calabar has fetched the State government a whooping two hundred and thirty two million Naira(N232m)CrossRiverWatch can authoritatively report.
The land which is purchased by ARTEE Group to build a retail shopping mall popularly known as Park’n’Shop departmental store is expected to create not less than 1,000 direct jobs for Cross Riverians before April 2015.
Criticisms had greeted plans to sell one of the state’s foremost event center and cultural heritage built by former governor of old Cross River State, U. J. Esuene’s Administration.
Before now, some highly placed Cross Riverians who spoke with CrossRiverWatch said the property was given to an acolyte of the state’s first family to construct Shoprite Calabar without any due process, due diligence or rules of engagements to the allocation of the land.
However, during the foundation and ground breaking ceremony of the retail mall in Calabar recently, Governor Liyel Imoke announced that the three hectares part of the Cultural Center was sold for N232 million Naira and that the money has been paid into the government purse.
Imoke who said the 45million Dollars investment will provide employment and increase the state per capital income as an investment hub in Nigeria outside Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja is part of his dream to make Calabar a destination.
Earlier, the chief executive Officer of ARTEE group, Haresh Keswani said “I want to build a legacy in Calabar and I want each of you to be cloned like me in providing opportunity to the youths and the State.”
