The Police in Cross River State says there will be impromptu raids of all drinking joints and bars across the State.

The State Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Irene Ugbo, disclosed this to CrossRiverWatch in a press release signed and made available on Friday, June 7, 2024 in Calabar.

SP Irene said the exercise aims to ensure compliance with the state’s liquor licensing laws and to curb illegal activities associated with unlicensed establishments.

She noted that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, solicits the cooperation of business owners in this regard and emphasized that the operation will be conducted in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations of the state.

Residents are urged to remain calm as the exercise is intended to enhance public safety and order.

“The primary goal is to address illegalities and criminal activities perpetrated by individuals operating or selling alcoholic beverages without the necessary licenses. Such individuals will face legal action,” part of the press release reads.

The Police Command also implores all citizens residing in the state to remain law-abiding to ensure peaceful-coexistence. They are enjoined to contact the PPRO SP Irene Ugbo via 08068559326 for more inquiries.
