By Patrick Obia

The Cross River State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has called for a peaceful protest, as the August 1st nationwide peaceful demonstration beacons.

The Command made the call through a press release made available by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Irene Ugbo, for the State Commissioner of Police CP Gyogon Grimah, who sued for “constructive activities that promote the growth and overall welfare of our beloved state.”

CP Grimah extended heartfelt appreciation to Cross Riverians, traditional and religious leaders, friends of the force, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), other sister security agencies, and the State Government led by Senator Bassey Otu, “for the exceptional cooperation and collaboration experienced across various domains.”

He said the Command earnestly advises parents and guardians to diligently counsel their children and wards to engage in peaceful exercise in order to maintain the legacy of peace enjoyed in the State.

The Police Boss recounted that “It is important to recall the unfortunate breakdown of law and order during the 2020 ‘#EndSARS’ protest, which resulted in the tragic loss of life and the destruction of public and private properties. While the right to protest is an integral aspect of our democratic society, it is crucial that these rights are exercised responsibly to ensure continued progress and development.”

The Commissioner assures all residents that comprehensive proactive measures have been implemented in collaboration with sister agencies to prevent any form of violent protest or actions that contravene the laws of the land.

He enjoins residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities or movements of individuals or groups in their Communities.
