An unidentified aged man suspected to be mentally deranged has been found lying unconscious along the Calabar-Odukpani Highway, Calabar, Cross River State.
Eyewitnesses told CrossRiverWatch that he has laid by the road side for days that is a few meters close to military and police checkpoints by Etehe-Etehe Layout after Scanobo junction, 9 miles Calabar.
“The man had been lying there since Thursday 14 August, 2025 under rain and sun struggling for life while road users passed by looking from a distance with no attempt to help,” one of the eyewitnesses who pleaded anonymity said.
A second eyewitness added: ”The location of the incident falls within the military checkpoint at Scanobo junction, Northwest filling station and the police checkpoint Akim-Akim. Security men must have seen the body and didn’t do anything about it.”
They called on the relevant authorities such as the Ministry of Environment, Health, Social Welfare and others to intervene.
