The homes of the immediate past Commissioner representing Cross River State in the board of the Niger Delta Development Authority (NDDC) Paul Adah and former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Venatius Ikem were last night attacked by unknown gunmen who fired shots CrossRiverWatch can authoritatively report.
Paul Adah while narrating his ordeal told CrossRiverWatch that the gunmen numbering about three attacked his home around 2am Tuesday, and fired shots at the entrance since they could not gain entry.
Paul, while narrating his ordeal to members of the All Progressives Congress, APC who paid him a solidarity visit at his home in Calabar said “They came in at about 2am and kept pushing the gate with my security personnel continuously asking who they were which they replied “we are the ones. They then fired shots with my security personnel picking three shells this morning.”
The former representative in the 5th and 6th National Assembly did not rule out a political undertone to the incident saying “I have been actively involved in politics for about 18 years, Donald Duke did 8 years, Imoke did another 8, this is the first time an Obudu man is governor and another Obudu man is attacked” adding that, “Vena’s wife even said some three people knocked on their gate before then and left at about 1:30am with my own incident occurring at about 2am, so it is safe to say they were the same people.”
“I cannot understand why someone will send people to kill me because I decided to exercise my freedom to associate with another party. But I want to say that we are not scared nor worried.”
Efforts to reach Venatius Ikem to confirm Hon. Paul Adah’s statement proved abortive as a network machine kept saying “the number you dialled is not reachable” and “your call is been forwarded, please hang up or stay on the line to send a voice message at call price.”
But in a quick reaction, Mr. Christian Ita, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ayade described those linking his boss to the incident as people looking for cheap publicity.
In a chat with CrossRiverWatch, Ita said “It is unimaginable that some people will even contemplate that sort of a thing even when the police have done any investigation and come out with any report. Why do members of the APC in the state always want to ascribe their misfortunes to the governor? Why will the governor want to kill Paul Adah and Venatius Ikem?
“What was their role in the last election? How really influential are they? I think the allegation is just an attempt to get cheap publicity and those are vestiges of the politics of the past. The police should be allowed to do their investigation to find out what exactly transpired and no one should pre-empt the police but if he alleges that the governor is behind the attackers without police investigation, how does he know that it was not a burglary? We can as well allege that he stage managed the attack to achieve cheap publicity.”
It will be recalled that the Adah and Ikem, former bigwigs of the PDP recently dumped the party with their supporters for the APC with several allegations that the PDP is using several machineries to threaten their lives.
