President of the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of Nigeria, Bukola Olapade has called on the National Sports Commission, NSC to consider the inclusion of the sport among medal scoring events in future National Sports Festivals, beginning from Calabar 2014 Games.

Speaking in Lagos Wednesday, the former Ogun State Commissioner for Sports disclosed that wheelchair basketball had featured as demonstration sport in four festivals.

“We want to be part of the festival as this sport cannot develop if we are not fully integrated with the rest of the sports,” he said.

He disclosed that the federation had concluded plans for the second Honourable Victor Ochei national championship which will hold in Lagos between February 23 and 25, 2013.

“The board has agreed to invite teams from Ghana, Togo and the Republic of Benin to be part of the championship in order to give it the desired competitive edge,” Olapade said.

He said the championship has been fixed to coincide with the birthday of their sponsor, Honourable Ochei who is the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.
