by crossriverwatch admin

Governors of the six states of the South South zone under the auspices of the BRACED Commission have met and proposed the establishment of a special regional force to tackle the upsurge of kidnapping in the region.

The force, according to the plan, will be made up of a structure set up by the governors and the leadership of the Nigeria Police with huge budget for the procurement of helicopters, gunboats, patrol vans and coordinating digital coverage of the entire region.

Speaking to news men after the meeting of the proposed security outfit by the six special advisers on security in BRACED states in Yenegoa, the Bayelsa State capital, Special Adviser to the Bayelsa Governor on Security, Col. Bernard Kenebai (rtd) said, though the proposed outfit is being put together by the six special security advisers in the region, it will coordinate the existing security network in the BRACED states in the Niger Delta region.

BRACED is an acronym coined from the initial letters in Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo and Delta. It is a brainchild of the South South Governors Forum to develop the region and make it a safe, secure and an investment haven in Oil and Gas, Agriculture, Education, Health and Human Development.

This is a good development but it will be a responsive approach. The governors and security chiefs can contact me for a more defensive and more technological approach to combating this menace.
