Conscious of the reality that a significant percentage of the population of his constituency of Northern Cross River State are farmers, Professor Ben Ayade, the Senator representing that Senatorial district is set to distribute millions of kilograms of high yield rice seedlings, faro 47 and 57, to farmers in his constituency free.
In a statement signed by his Personal Assistant, Dr. Stephen Odey and made available to CrossRiverWatch, Senator Ayade said his motivation for the free distribution of the high yield variety of rice is to make the farmers who incidentally comprise the bulk of the population of his constituents millionaires.
“Central to the introduction of this high yield rice is its potential to provide highest returns on investment, its high resistance to pests attack, high quality grain paddy and above all its high yield per hectre”. The statement said.
According to the young Senator, the aim of empowering his constituents through the “Green Millionaire Program is aimed at creating jobs for our teeming youths and parents too in the five local government areas in the northern parts of the state”.
Senator Ayade said the provision of this variety of rice is to make farmers millionaires amongst the people of the northern part of Cross River who are predominantly farmers and accordingly enjoined the farmers and potential farmers to take advantage of this invaluable opportunity and register their names at his Constituency Office located at Plot 10, General Hospital Road, Igoli Ogoja, Cross River State to ensure they benefit from the scheme.
