The contestant representing Afrometriques Media in the Obudu Face of Culture contest, Miss Felicia Ubelebi Udida has emerged winner of the 2013 edition of the Obudu Face Culture competition.
20 year old Felicia, who is also a 200 level student of Business Administration at the Cross River University of Technology, emerged winner at the grand finale of the event which held at the Obudu civic center, last Friday.
The event, which is being organized by Mountain Cinema, had eight contestants entering for the competition but only seven turned out for the Camping which lasted for a week with tutorials aimed at building the capacity of the contestants in some entrepreneurial skills and to prepare them for the contest.
Also on the winners list as first runner up is the Face of Cross River Film Agency, 21 year old University of Calabar-Modern Language student, Miss Evelyn Ugbaka; while 21 year old student of Mass Communication at the Cross River University of Technology, representing Reel Max Media, Retina Ushibima Ashibekong came second runner up.
Others who took part in the cultural pageant competition include Face of Veehive Events, Miss Edith Andornimye Ufung; Face of Top Choice lodge, Christabel Akaebiere Akpuo; Face of Sip Spot, Perpetua Lipeh-Unim Ugbizi ; and Face of 9ice Bite, Ruth Utianbeshie Agogo.
Presenting the contest result for announcement, representative of the Cross River Department of Cultural Heritage, Mr. Jerome Adie on behalf of other judges including CEO of House of Lavender modeling agency, Miss Ungienkpe Ube, criticized the cultural miss-representation made by some of the contestants about the Bette people and stressed the need for inculcation of right cultural knowledge on young ones for a better representation of the Obudu people.
Earlier in his keynote address, the chairman of Obudu Local government, Hon. Emmanuel Ikwen who also took charge of the unveiling of a movie titled ‘Iwali’ in the event, commended Mountain Cinema for organizing the event which he said has been recorded as part of his administration’s achievement and pledged the council continuous support for the yearly event.
Expressing her happiness in an interview CrossRiverWatch, the winner of the Obudu Face of Culture 2013, Miss Felicia Udida said she feels excited that her hard work paid off and thanked the organizers for the mandate given her to represent the Bette people as a cultural ambassador.
She enumerated some of the pet projects she intends to achieve to include holding of seminar for people living with HIV/AIDS; waging campaign against pre-marital pregnancy; and visiting both secondary and primary school in her bid to pay back to the society that has given her a mandate to serve.
In her charge, the 2012 winner of the crown, Miss Fatima Ugenyi Adie charged her successor, the new queen to be focused in representing the Bette culture and to take the Obudu Face of Culture event to its desired height.
In his appreciation message, the CEO, Mountain Cinema, Mr. Frank Akpeke described those who contributed to the success of the event as being vital ingredients that saw the event through and expressed hope that with the number of organizations bidding to partner with Mountain Cinema on the hosting of subsequent events he was hopeful that the 2014 edition will come out greater.
Highlights of the event included crowning of the new cultural queen, unveiling of the movie titled ‘Iwali’ and glitz of performances from Real P Ajaba; South South stage diver, DizzBaby Kwelle; Gzy Young; dance by salsa couple Emmanuel Eze and Megshilla; and runway showcase by House of Lavender modeling agency.
Personalities at the event include former governorship aspirant, Mr. Goddie Akpama; representative of Cross River Department of Cultural Heritage, Mr. Jerome Adie; representative of the Ministry of Youths and Sports, Barrister John Ejin; Vice Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. Agnes Atsu; Special Adviser to the Council on Tourism, Mr. Casmier Undie.
Other appearances were recorded from Nigerian Films Skoto, William William, Emmanuel Asuquo, Cross River Mr. Famous, Victor Eyamba; Tony Okwo alongside past and present pageant queens of Obudu and Obanlikwu.
