The Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Cross River State Council, Pastor Ndoma Akpet has charged actors in Cross River state to take the role of promoting the state’s rich culture and tourism potentials through the big screen seriously.

The state NUJ chairman gave the charge while receiving the newly elected executives of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Cross River Chapter in his office in Calabar recently.

Comrade Akpet, who described actors as image makers stressed the need for Nollywood actors based in the state to keep Cross River’s rich culture and tourism potentials at the front burner of their acting activities.

According to him actors have a role to explore good storylines from the state’s rich cultural history as this would enhance better story-telling and in turn boost film production in the state.

Other issues discussed by the NUJ chairman include the need for the guild to build capacity amongst members of the chapter in order for them to be able to participate in the larger Nigerian Film Industry.

Comrade Akpet, who also stressed the importance of publicity for entertainers in the state, assured actors of the readiness of journalists to partner with them to promote the film industry in the state.

Speaking earlier, the newly inaugurated chairperson of the guild, Monica Udofia, who was in company of her executive members, said her executive first official assignment for the guild was to explore useful partnership with journalists to ensure that the state’s publicity starved entertainment potentials are promoted.

She enumerated part of the executive agenda in office to include ensuring proper grading of actors; securing a secretariat for the guild; ensuring unity amongst members of the guild; amongst other projects.

Similar visits by the newly elected executive were paid to the General Manager, Cross River Broadcasting Cooperation, CRBC, Mr Ayi Henshaw; and Managing director of Climax Production, Mr Ukpai Ukpai Oti.
