Speaking before capping the new Etubom, the Obong of Calabar His Royal Majesty Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu (V) advised that he, the Vice Chancellor should count himself lucky to have been chosen by his household to lead them maintaining that “On that note I charge you to be of good representation to your people by not failing them for the love and trust they repose on you”.
His Royal Majesty Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu (V) also beckoned on the entire members of the Ene-Obong house to always support their family head in any chosen endeavor but let it be for the interest of all, adding that the Etubom Traditional Council members should in love and kindness guide and carry their newest member along.
In his acceptance speech after been capped as the Etubom of Ikot Ene-Obong, Etubom (Prof.) Effiom Ene-Obong prayed for God’s blessing upon his family members, well wishers and the Obong of Calabar for unanimously agreeing to let him lead the family when more people are there who are better in all ramification than himself.
He lamented that part of his pain is that many Efik children especially in Calabar South are not in school and that among the five Efik speaking Local Government Areas of the state only Odukpani is active, he however called for all hands to be on deck to salvage the traditional heritage of the Efik kingdom to hold in high esteem and preserve for the generations to come.
On his part, Etubom (Elder) Micah Archibong (V) of the Archibong Royal House noted that the task the new Etubom faces now differs from any other he has seen even as an academic professor because now he has become a full flesh traditional father that carries on his back the responsibilities of improving his followers all round, urging him to consult with the relevant parties before making any step because consultation is pivotal.
