Reports reaching CrossRiverWatch say there is a fire outbreak at the prestigious Transcorp Metro Hotel in Calabar, the Cross River State Capital.
Our reporter on the ground say the fire started from the gas station of the hotel after an electrical fault sparked an explosion minutes ago.
“There is still a lot of pandemonium resulting from the thick smokes billowing into the sky and the staff are still in panic mood. But I can confirm that the fire started from the gas station after an electrical malfunction caused a spark. The main hotel itself is not touched. It is the gas station that is burning now and the fire is not yet under control at all.
“The fire service people are here with their three vehicles and one has gone back to refill. The police, civil defence and other security services are also here to lend a helping hand”.
