Dr. Sandy Onor, the erstwhile Commissioner for Environment who has remained under suspension by Governor Imoke for supporting the governorship ambition of Goddy Jedy Agba, OFR is set to become the Director General of the Jedy Campaign Organization.
Though Jedy Agba who is still the Group General Manager, GGM, Crude Oil Marketing Department COMD of the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation NNPC, has not openly indicated interest in the coveted governorship seat, very reliable sources close to the Obudu Prince told CrossRiverWatch that: “Baring anything, he should officially vacate his position within the next three weeks and openly declare his intention to become governor so that the speculations will be laid to rest.
“He is a bonafide Cross Riverian, a holder of a very prestigious National Award, Officer of the Federal Republic, OFR, given to him by President Jonathan for meritorious service to Nigeria, he is the heir apparent to the Throne of his father, the Paramount Ruler of Obudu LGA, Uti J.D. Agba 1, he is a thorough bred and tested technocrat with a state and nationwide appeal, with the requisite connections necessary to open our state for imminent opportunities.
“Yes, Dr. Sandy Onor, will also soon resume duties fully as the Director General of the Jedy Campaign Organization. He is a very versatile politician and a well trained technocrat with the right mix of experience in the state politics. He has a very impressive track record of delivery and there could not have been a better person or a better time to hand him another such opportunity.” The source said.
CrossRiverWatch also reliably gathered that the group has already acquired an office property at the highbrow Marian Road in Calabar which is presently going through finishing touches. The office is expected to be opened within two weeks.
It will be recalled that Governor Imoke recently recalled his commissioners and special advisers that were suspended following their failure to attend activities marking the 2013 World AIDS Day but Dr. Sandy Onor and another SA were not recalled because of their alleged support for Jedy’s governorship ambition amidst speculations that the governors’ favoured successor is Fidelis Ugbo.
Dr. Onor was formerly a lecturer in the University of Calabar before he joined the political fray. He was billed to run against Governor Imoke under the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN after the annulment of Imoke’s election by the Court of Appeal but later stepped down to become the Director General of the Imoke Campaign Organization.
Imoke won the rerun and he was appointed Commissioner. He was a guest at the reception organized for the Chief of Staff to Governor Imoke, Chief Alex Egbona at Dannic Hotel, Calabar over the weekend.
Chief Egbona is also set to run for the Abi/Yakurr federal constituency seat presently occupied by Hon. Bassey Ewa.
