Hon. Steve Ukpukpen, Member representing Obudu State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly is partnering with the State Medium Enterprise Development Agency, MEDA and the Central Bank of Nigeria Enterprise Development Center CBN/EDC, to provide training and matching capital for youth entrepreneurs in his constituency.

According Hon Ukpukpen, the projected training and provision of capital is restricted to agro allied processing which is the focus of the intervention from the Bank of Industry through MEDA.

Documents made available to CrossRiverWatch show that ten agro allied cooperative societies have been duly registered in the names of the ten political wards in Obudu local government with bank accounts opened for them with a one million Naira deposit each to facilitate the take off of the scheme.

Beneficiaries will undergo entrepreneurial training at the CBN Enterprise Development Center, Eyo Ita House in Calabar.

In a chat with CrossRiverWatch, Hon. Ukpukpen said: “This is not a political appointment where you come and take money or earn salary. This is an effort to give my constituents a life time opportunity to earn a living for themselves and create employment for others as entrepreneurs. Ironically most of the young people are not willing to take the opportunity because they would have preferred money being shared to them but I see this as a better and more sustainable way of empowering our people and I urge our youths across party lines and political wards in Obudu to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Interested applicants from the ten political wards in Obudu are to obtain their application forms, free of charge from the office of the Secretary of Council, Obudu Local Government Council Secretariat, Ranch Road, Obudu.
