The Biase Youth Movement, BYM has kicked against plans by the immediate past chairman of Biase Local Government council, Dr. Emil Inyang to replace Hon. Daniel Asuquo, popularly known as Dansuki, who is representing the Biase/Akamkpa federal constituency in the House of Representatives.

While reacting to comments on calitown.com credited to sources from Emil’s political camp, Mr. Ojar Egbai, the Chairman of BYM in a statement accused the Chairman of failing to leave behind meaningful development projects while he was in office and advised him to stop dreaming of taking over from Dansuki

According to Mr. Egbai, “We have read with amusement Dr. Emil Inyang’s interview published on May 12, 2014 in calitown.com, an internet-based magazine, in which he tried to promote his ambition to represent Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives come 2015 by promising to upgrade Biase’s Adim Hospital to a standard one if elected.

“We agree that the upgrade is necessary and even overdue. Many of our people have died needlessly while travelling far to seek medical help. However, Dr. Inyang’s promise is disingenuous and self-serving.

“He was the Chairman of Biase Local Government Council for an unprecedented six years and had a golden chance to revamp the hospital and write his name in gold. But he failed to do so – even when it ought to be his primary concern as a medical doctor. The same is the case with the Adim/Abayongho Road which he mentioned in the same interview.

“While he may claim that the money in the coffers of the Council was not enough to support such projects, it clearly was enough to enrol his children in top universities in the UK, build choice houses, build one of the best school in Calabar, across the State and UK, buy cars and set up businesses for his mother’s children and spend generously to finance his present ambition. These are all projects that his income as a Council Chairman could not and cannot justify”.

The youths said they will not be hoodwinked by the promises the erstwhile chairman has made and pledged their loyalty to Dansuki, the incumbent member representing Biase/Akamkpa federal constituency in the House of Representative.

“We refuse to be deceived by Dr. Inyang’s ploy and pledge our unqualified support to Hon. Daniel Asuquo who in only his third year has scored very high marks in the three major domains of legislative business: lawmaking, representation and oversight function. We can’t support Dr. Emil, Hon. Daniel Asuquo will return because he has performed”. The statement concluded.
