The Cross River State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has denounced the activities of the exco of a faction of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter.

In a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Patrick Ugbe and made available to CrossRiverWatch, the ministry said: “The attention of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has once more been drawn to a group of persons parading themselves as Executive members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter.

“We want to reiterate for the last time and for the avoidance of doubt that the Cross River State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria is led by Mr. Okori Benard Oko whose elective congress the Ministry personally supervised.

“That congress took place in October, 2012 at the U.J. Esuene Swimming Pool side, and that is the only executive recognized by the government of Cross River State.

“Members of the public should be wary of doing business with any other person or group of persons in the name of National Youth Council of Nigeria Cross River State Chapter except Mr. Okori Benard Oko led executive members. Where in doubt, please seek advice from the Ministry.

“Cross River State is a peaceful state and we will do everything legally possible to ensure that the state remains so. We are aware that this group is paying courtesy calls on some personalities. This must stop forthwith.

“Consequently, any person or group of persons parading themselves as state Chairman and Executive members of the National Youth Council, Cross River State Chapter with intent of causing trouble and disaffection in the state will not be tolerated.

“I therefore call on the law enforcement agencies to please be on the watch out for those trouble makers”.

The statement was copied to the Department of State Security (DSS), State Commissioner of Police, State Security Adviser, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the State Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
