One hundred and eight persons drawn from the fifty four wards of the Northern Senatorial District of Cross River State were on Wednesday inaugurated to serve in “Conversation Committees” of the Goddy Jedy Agba Campaign Organization.
A similar inauguration ceremony held in Ikom, the Central Senatorial District same day while the inauguration for the Southern Senatorial district held today at the Marian Road office of the organization.
Speaking before the inauguration in Ogoja, Dr Sandy Onor, the Director General of the Goddy Jedy Agba Campaign Organization said membership of the committees was done to reflect gender sensibilities because the conversation they are to undertake covers everyone in the ward. “It is a great responsibility you have been entrusted with and because we see you as the correct persons for the job who will live up to expectations, you have to do the job well”.
He said the job they have been assigned to do is not a joke but is meant to give value to the lives of the people of the state and as such, no one should take it lightly so that at the appropriate time, if they need to make a demand for the services they have rendered they can do it with strength.
“We are not campaigning yet but because we believe in the politics that germinates from the grassroots, we have to inaugurate these conversation committees so that you can start conversing with your people that the North should be allowed to choose the governor of their choice not the one produced from an individual’s pocket”.
He told the committee members that they have the mandate to converse with their people and nobody can stop conversation. “Very soon, you will be seeing more of action than words so position yourself in the right place because what we are doing is part of the selection process for a governor of our choice and by the Grace of God, we shall succeed”.
Earlier, Mr Venatius Ikem urged the members of the committees and those present to record the proceedings of the day because very shortly they would know that they have not made a mistake by backing of Goddy Jedy Agba for the governorship of the state. “We have brought together 54 men and 54 women who will make contact with everyone in their wards and please make sure no one is left out and again, don’t come and tell us Goddy Agba is winning everywhere but report to us the true picture you see in the field so that we can address it immediately”.
He assured the committee members that they would soon be given seed to plant and as good farmers, they should plant rather than eat the seed because the harvest is greater that the few seeds in their hands.
Chief Thomas Ntaji who is popularly called Omo Bright who is the owner of Memories, said Mr. Donald Duke, the erstwhile governor of the state, Senator Liyel Imoke, the incumbent and their supporters started their campaign in 1999 at the Memories and they succeeded, so “Today as Goddy Agba has started his campaign on the same spot, he too will succeed and become the governor of the state”
He said he has since donated an office in Memories for the Goddy Agba Campaign Organization and assured that the place has been renovated and made comfortable for use at any time.
