The politics of 2015 within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Cross River State has instigated stiff competition among the government and top political players.
CrossRiverWatch can authoritatively report that the state government has perfected plans to donate a brand new Hilux Ford to each of the chapter chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state as a compensation for their loyalty to the ruling party and for doing the bidding of the party at the grassroots.
Before now, the chapter chairmen in all the eighteen local governments have not be enjoying such benevolence as they all ride in their private cars some of which are very rickety.
The local governments in firm control of the chapter party chairmen according to our source are Calabar municipality, Akampa, Bakassi, Biase, Odukpani, Akpabuyo, Abi, Yakurr, Obubra, Ikom, Etung, Boki, Ogoja, Obudu, Obanlinku, Bekwara and Yala.
The fate of Calabar South is not known according to the source who preferred anonymity.
Asked why the government is giving the chairmen and not the party cars, our source said “What is the difference between the party and the government?
Is it not the same thing? The party produced the government and it’s the government that finances the party even in the opposition states, it’s the same thing.”
It was not however clear as at the time of filing this report who will present the cars to the party official in the local governments.
While a source said the Governor who is far away in Brazil as a member of the federal government delegation to the world cup will come before the official presentation, others said the car gift is generating ripples among the party officials at the PDP secretariat.
He said some of the state party exco members see the car largesse as a slap on them as they have not benefited such gesture from the government.
“In the light of this, the Hilux may be given out silently and not in an official capacity any longer” our source said.
CrossRiverWatch reliably gathered that the car gift to the chapter chairmen was a deliberate strategy to buy their loyalty and commit them not to be compromised by any financial or material inducement which some of the aspirants have allegedly started doing.
