Ramadan is a period of fasting when Muslims humble themselves in prayer to the Almighty Allah.
It is a time of reduced activity for adherents of the Islamic faith as more time is spent reflecting soberly on the complexities of life and supplicating for a more humane society and a better world.
In a magnanimous move, Mr. Odey Ochicha, the APC gubernatorial aspirant in Cross River State yesterday donated several fifty kilogram bags of polished rice and numerous bags of iodized salt to the Hausa communities across Cross River North Senatorial District to support them during the fasting.
The distribution which was witnessed by Mr. Kalita Joe Aruku, State Assistant Youth Leader (APC), Mr. Joe Odey; Media Aide to the APC National Vice- Chairman, South South, and Mr Etim Ekpenyong; leader of the Ochicha Support Group OSG, was first done in Ogoja LGA and repeated in the other four council areas constituting the Senatorial district.
The leaders of the Hausa communities in each LGA received the items on behalf of their people.
Speaking through his representative, Hon Adie Atsu Liberty, Mr. Odey Ochicha, a leading gubernatorial aspirant and member of the All Progressives Congress APC, who is also a staff of the NNPC, requested the community elders to ensure equitable distribution of the items amongst their kin and to pray for the development of democracy in Cross River state and Nigeria.
In his reaction, the spokesman of the Ogoja Hausa community, Mallam Shuaibu Aliyu, commended the gesture and assured the team of the continued support of his people. He said, ‘we will not cease to support APC as it is the only truly democratic party in Nigeria today.’
Alhaji Yusuf Usman, who is the Chief Imam of Obudu Central Mosque and is also the State Vice Chairman of the Council for Islamic Affairs, voiced their appreciation by thanking Mr. Ochicha and pledged the support of his people for the All Progressives Congress.
The community leaders of other LGAs also expressed gratitude to the aspirant for deeming it fit to take them into account and prayed God to grant him victory in the coming elections.
Hon. Liberty exhorted them to be model citizens, to use this opportunity to pray for the progress of Cross River state and to support Mr. Ochicha in his quest for the governorship now that it has been zoned exclusively to the Northern Senatorial District by the All Progressives Congress.
Members of the Ochicha Support Group assisted in the sharing.
