The Cross River State governor, Senator Liyel Imoke has been lauded for gender sensitivity in governance which has ensured adequate representation of women in some key areas of governance in the state.
The commendation was made by Mrs. Theresa Agbor in a chat with CrossRiverWatch where she disclosed that it is due to this laudable stride of the amiable governor that the women and indeed party faithfuls of Ikom Urban Ward One have called on her as a worthy servant to move up into the legislative ladder for effective representation in Cross River State House of Assembly.
She said: “The Ikom One State Constituency slot for Cross River State House of Assembly has been zoned to Ikom Urban Ward One, my ward and the women have urged me to contest for that office come 2015 and they pledged their support to me, as well as saying I am a woman of substance and of strong character haven been tested and trusted in many capacities at Local, State and even Federal”.
Mrs. Agbor who is a retired Director, State Secondary Education Board served the state for thirty five years before retiring in June, 2014. She added that she became a popular choice due to her passion for service to the Ikom people, Cross Riverians and Nigerians by extension on several platforms.
Mrs. Agbor maintained that “I have been an ardent worker for the ruling People’s Democratic Party since her birth in the state and the nation at my level as a civil servant. I believe there can be no better time for me than now”.
The yet to declare aspirant said “I am yet to make my aspiration public but at the appointed time I shall present myself and my legislative agenda to the people of Ikom One State Constituency and Cross River in general”.
She concluded by thanking Senator Liyel Imoke for giving women such an enormous opportunity to serve while assuring that she will leave up to expectations.
