The scheduled governorship screening exercise by the northern senatorial district caucus of the ruling PDP in Cross River state for today Saturday September 6, 2014 may not hold as planned after all.
CrossRiverWatch gathered that the likely actual reason for why the screening may not take place is not unconnected with the powerful strings which the powers that be in the state are laboring all days to exclude from the 2015 governorship race in the state.
Competent sources close to the corridors of power in the state as well as the powers that be in the northern senatorial caucus of the party disclosed that another reason for the likely postponement of the screening of the gubernatorial aspirants from the north has to do with the fact that CrossRiverWatch had preempted the likely aspirants that would have emerged from the Saturday’s screening.
CrossRiverWatch had exclusively reported that the likely aspirants favored by the state government to scale through to the second round would be the embattled Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Larry Odey, the Special Adviser, Budget, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Acting Chairman, Cross River Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Ntufam Dr. Peter A. Oti,, the former Secretary to the State Government, and current Executive Secretary, National Planning Commission, Abuja, Chief Fidelis Ugbo, and the former Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Council, and current Commissioner for Works in the State, Barr. Idagbo Legor.
This is said to have created a chain of ripple effects and reactions that have overwhelmed both the members of the caucus and the leadership of the party in the state.
But our source informed us that paucity of funds to use in carrying the exercise will be the likely reason which the organizers intend to advance as a cover up for the postponement. But CrossRiverWatch gathered reliably that even the 300,000 collected from the aspirants as screening fee was also returned to those who had already pay.
No date was yet given for a rescheduled exercise and it was not immediately clear whether the screening will still go ahead.
