As expected, the Annual Senator Victor Ndoma Egba Scholarship Scheme today distributed 73million Naira to indigent students selected from Cross River Central Senatorial District with a promise that beneficiaries who do well in their academic pursuit are guaranteed employment after their one year youth service.
The promise to get jobs for beneficiaries who do well in their studies, according to the Senate Leader, is an addition to the over three decade scholarship scheme.
Speaking during the event held at channel view hotel Calabar, Ndoma Egba said the scholarship which is targeted at the poor but brilliant students has been increased to N73 million annually to accommodate more beneficiaries.
“The next phase of this scholarship moving forward is to start tracking those who have benefitted in the past, know what they are doing and look for employment for others who are qualified to work.
“With all these I hear they say Ndoma Egba is stingy, I can’t be because I know I’m not.
”In my computer training institute, 9,500 persons cutting across states in Nigeria are attending without paying a dime.
“What we have provided for you as beneficiaries will pay your tuition fees and leave some change and we will continue to pay for your school fees throughout your studentship as long as you maintain the GPA of 2.5 minimum.
“This was a deliberate decision because we want to assist students who are serious.
“The next phase of this scholarship will be to track the beneficiaries and look for employment for them after their NYSC.
