Honorable Ogar Douglas Ogar, Councilor representing Abo Ward, Boki Local Government Area in Cross River State has said that he has placed the car that was given to them by the state government for sale at a car shop at Marian Road in Calabar.
Hon. Ogar in an exclusive interview with CrossRiverWatch said that the cars were given to them without option and at an exorbitant prize. “The cars given to us was not optional, I would have been the first if there was options to sign that I don’t need the car but the 1 million Naira to invest directly in my people because that money can go a long way to effect some changes in my ward, after all they know I’m very business oriented which has taken me far and wide the world.
“I would have invested it in a business that will serve as a stepping stone for our youths. Many thought the cars were free will official cars but it wasn’t, the worth of the car from my interaction with the Sterling company is about 2.4 million Naira, but government gave us the cars at a subsidize rate of 3.150m, about 78 thousand is deducted monthly for the car unconditionally with the meager salary we earn.
“I have no desire for such car and mine has been placed for sale the very day I collected it, it’s in a car stand in Marian Road/Ndidem Usang Iso Road Calabar opposite Beverly Hills.”
Hon. Ogar also decried the neglect of Boje, the Boki Local Government headquarter and said he is making serious effort to draw development to the LG headquarters. “I once moved a motion for all the Councilors, Chairman, and appointees to compulsorily reside in the council headquarter, that will ensure the place will no more be dilapidated or be left in this comatose state if we all stay here. In the LGA capital there is no mobile network; if you call my phones from Monday to Thursday you will never get me because I will be at the council headquarter where there is no network and because there is no legislative quarters, I’m in a rented apartment”.
In order to survive the network perils and keep him abreast with current happenings which he maintained can only be done easily with the internet; he said “I perch in Ikom with a friend. Our council headquarters has the worst terrain in Boki, with the bad terrain we cross bridges; there is no standard bridge leading through the high current river in between Boje the council headquarter, sometimes we use boat, canoe to cross over and trek for about 5km to the council headquarters, can you imagine”.
Continuing his lamentation, Hon. Ogar revealed that the youths have been misled into bad and unprogressive politics that is not of benefit to the community. He said, “In Boki the youths have been hypnotized into bad politics where nothing tangible can come from, this ward which is the biggest and most respected in Boki with over 17 thick inaccessible villages is now a shopping ground for all manner of ills all because our leaders have failed, they have marginalized the youths, our leaders have failed to rely on and explore the potentials that lies within our youths, they have become self centered, they think of personal differences instead of communal growth.
“Our challenges have overwhelmed us, the earlier we begin to fight for liberation, the better for us and generations to come. In Boki this ward produces what we call jumbo votes whereby when you win this ward you are sure to have won Boki, our leaders have failed us and destroyed the trust we repose on them.
“Boki as big as it is does not have a centralized mobile town, I’m working on that in the legislature alongside my colleagues to map out a centralized commercial town and commence feeder plans. Many persons already dislike my vision and in many ways try to antagonize me but it takes only a greater mind to continue, because the people who I represent in the council have my back, I fear no treat”.
He disclosed that as part of his little contribution to the educational growth of his people, “I run a small educational foundation in my ward where yearly I sponsor 15 students cutting across primary to secondary schools where 70% of their academic needs are met by me single handedly.
“As we speak the names of the present beneficiaries are; Takon Patricia, Ojua Kelly, Ojua Stanley Mbia, Agbor Favor, Marvelous Osung, Perpetual Achi, Mkpe Winifred, Obun Jonathan, Kekung Clinton, Blessing Yaya, Joy Marshal, Ogar Prince, Obi Isreal, Ensure Lawo and Stella Ojie all selected from the over 17 villages in Abo Ward”.
He concluded by calling on all sons and daughters of Boki who believe in the Boki struggle to join hands with him in the crusade he has launched to salvage the ward and local government as a whole from collapsing as it leaves presently on past glories.
