Chairman of Ogoja Local Government, Cross River, Mrs. Rita Ayim, says the local government has begun N32 million rehabilitation project of the Ogoja Urban Market.
Ayim, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the rehabilitation would include 92 stalls in the market to boost economic activities in the area and increase revenue.
According to her, the local government administration is desirous of ensuring proper harnessing of its resources to provide more services to the people and generate jobs.
She said the project was facilitated by the recent increase in its internally-generated revenue through its partnership with the state government.
Ayim explained that the partnership involved the use of Point-of-Sales machines in deducting tax on goods purchased in local government areas and crediting same to the respective account.
She also disclosed that the local government area planned to execute some other projects, including road construction.
She appealed to the people to continue to pay their taxes to enable the administration to undertake more projects.
