The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Cross River State has debunked rumors that the number of governorship aspirants has been further reduced from the five that the party released by the week end to three as being speculated.
The party on Friday night released five names as the top scorers in the first round of screening that was held with a total of 13 aspirants across the 18 local councils.
The five include: Legor Idagbo, Mike Aniah, Fidelis Ugbo, Ben Ayade and Larry Odey.
The State Publicity Secretary of the Party had told CrossRiverWatch that a second round of screening for the five shortlisted aspirants will commence yesterday, Monday and the list will be further reduced to three. He did not give a precise date when that will be concluded.
However, rumor mills and several Cross River online groups have been awashed with another round of names and reports that the party has further trimmed the list to three names.
Attempts by CrossRiverWatch to confirm the release of another set of names from the PDP in the state reveal that no such thing has happened.
The party leadership urged members of the party and the people of Cross River State to disregard any information purporting to be from the party that the five man list which was released on Friday has been further reduced.
The State Chairman of the party, Ntufam John Okon in a message to CrossRiverWatch moments ago, said nothing has changed since the five man list was released on Friday and assured that: “We will go public when further decisions are taken.”
Both the State Publicity Secretary, Joe Obi Bisong and the State Secretary of the Party, Mr. Etta, also moments ago denied that the list has been reduced from the five names released earlier.
