The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leadership in Cross River State has suspended 11 of its members including a popular gubernatorial aspirant Mr. Goddy Jedy Agba for alleged manipulation of the last PDP ward congresses in the state.
Those said to be suspended include, Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma Egba, Mr. Goddy Jedy Agba, his Campaign Director, Dr. Sandy Onor, Venatius Ikem, James Tangnan, Tony Ngban, Ubi Itam, Kenut Ndoma-Egba, Ernest Irek, Livinus Odiga, Samuel Willie and Godwin Igiri.
The State Chairman of the Party, Ntufam John Okon who spoke to CrossRiverWatch in Calabar said the members were suspended after some stakeholders of the party in the state wrote a petition against the suspended members for alleged manipulation of the last PDP Ward elections which came up with delegates who will vote for the party primaries coming up on the 29th of this month.
“The State Executive Council has suspended some members today because we received several complaints of anti party activities against them, and complaints that they worked against the interest of the party in the last congresses and after deliberations today, the SEC decided that they should be suspended forthwith.” He said.
The Chairman said the suspension takes immediate effect from today Friday 7th October 2014.
Attempts to reach the Senate Leader to react to the development were not yet successful as at press time but the Jedy Campaign Organization in a swift reaction described the action as the desperate move of a losing cabal.
The Director General, Dr. Sandy Onor told CrossRiverWatch that: “Is it not even laughable that the same Jedy they said is not a member of the party is today being suspended? It is a huge joke. They are not the party. They have lost out and they know that is why they are employing this erratic measure. It is just the desperate move of a losing cabal. They will hear from us.”
It could however be recalled that the Chairman of PDP in Cross River state, Ntufam John Okon had spoken with the members of the Press on the outcome of the last ward congresses and and referred to them as hitch-free.
Another frontline governorship aspirant in the State, Mr. Legor Idagbo also in a chat with CrossRiverWatch, congratulated the state PDP and the Leader of the party in the state, Senator Liyel Imoke for what Legor described as “successful and peaceful ward congresses.”
In the state owned newspaper, The Nigerian Chronicle, Okon was quoted in the front page of the paper as saying that, “Initially, some aspirants wanted the election shifted but we said no. In the Southern Senatorial District which is nearer the state headquarters, elections were held and very peaceful in spite of efforts to sabotage them”.
