Sources have informed CrossRiverWatch that the meeting between the Kano state Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso and former governor of Cross River state, Mr. Donald Duke which held behind closed doors in Calabar on Wednesday was not able to conclude on any specific action plan between the two politicians.
According to our source who is very close to Duke, the meeting which took place at the Diamond Hill residence of Duke was in continuation of the nationwide consultation being undertaken by the Kano governor to garner support for his presidential ambition under the platform of the opposition APC.
The source said: “Alhaji Kwankwaso as you know has declared to run for the exalted office of the President under APC. He is doing nationwide consultations to garner support for that ambition and he thought it necessary to consult a man who till tomorrow is a political bulwark in Cross River, Donald Duke. He feels that he will require the support and cooperation of Mr. Donald Duke.”
On whether Kwankwaso was seeking to have Donald Duke as his running mate, the source who was at the meeting said: “Sure, who will not want to have Donald Duke as a Deputy? He has all the credibility and integrity that will naturally want people to desire that. The issue may come up in the subsequent meetings because the Wednesday meeting was inconclusive and as you know, Duke is a member of PDP and not APC”.
